My Creative Place

Creative Place 14/5/09

My Creative Place is back in the world of crochet this week but this time it has been minimised somewhat. When I first started making the tiny granny squares I wasn't too sure whether I would be able to see properly ever again. It was awfully fiddly and as a result rather time consuming. But... with the determination to continue (and the decision to clean the dust off my reading glasses!), I can now say that making the squares has got much easier. I can whip up one of the little squares in one tram trip to work (around 25 mins) and are no longer getting the hook stuck in wierd places and having to re-stitch trebles.

That being said, I am about to start another little project. It's my friend's birthday do on Saturday night and I need to make her a present. I have a necklace idea in mind and if you look closely at the picture you can see a teensy bit of the design peeking through on the paper underneath. I am not sure how it will go but I am fairly hopeful it will turn out ok. Will keep you posted.

Oops, I nearly forgot! I'm not the only creative place around here. Make sure you visit Kootoyoo and checkout all the other amazing creative places here!

Holy mac your photo made my mouth water (for the crochet squares not the naked man - although he is quite lovely in his own way...), just delicious.

Your little Wuppets make me chuckle every time I see them. Hilarious! Would love to see them pop up in the news some time, or in the paper, or... the list is endless! Kind of like the gnome that sends a postcard from various travel destinations.

hey i love your sexy dolls. they look awesome. also, the thing that mainly caught my eye apart for the gorgeous granny squares is the thing in the top left corner. A flower of some kind? did you make that? It looks lovely.

I love your wuppets! I always lean in for a closer look when I go to your creative space (don't want to sound pervy saying that!!!). Teeny, tiny grannies are amazing. Look forward to seeing more of your friend's present...

Are your Wuppets related to Flat Stanley???

I think that design under those eye-killing crochet squares looks great. My Nana used to crochet that fine type - it makes my eyes cross just to think about it. I'm glad you got your method down so you can get it done on the way to work. Good for you.

I love the tiny granny squares. I was trying to make some for a poncho for my Blythe but the cotton I was using was still a bit thick. It looks like you are using something very fine is that correct? I will check on your blog again it looks interesting.

Wow you are a patient one. Your squares are beautiful and the colours too. I commend you for choosing to do them differently.

thanks everyone! It's really lovely to receive such amazing feedback. =) The squares are challenging but I feel a renewed determination thanks to you all. I just wish there was an easier way of providing feedback to the feedback... I noticed Kirsty has a new set up. May be worth investigating..?

HI Melanie
I've just written a big thank you for my comments this week and I was thinking the same thing... I think it is definitely worth investigating as you can write directly to the person with ease. I will check it out too!
Cheers,
Lucy

@ Melanie The thing in the top left corner is something I bought when I was in Vietnam a few years ago. It's kind of like a shrine. There's a white buddha figurine with miniature water lilies made out of polymer clay and a branch of wood with fake moss on it. The wooden box it all sits in is filled with that fake water stuff that's like a gel. There's white pebbles in the bottom to make it look pond-ish. I bought it because it was so bad taste but I don't mean that in a bad way. I actually love it because it is so tacky.

@ angelique I got the yarn from the Tapestry Workshop which is in Melbourne Australia. I did textiles at uni for a short time about 10 years and one of the things I did was tapestry weaving. The yarn is what I had left over from that time - yes I am a terrible hoarder - but they still sell to the public and have an extraordinary array of colours. This is the link to their website. I'd try emailing them as see if they'd post it to you in New Caledonia. You never know.
