it's finished...

The quilt project

The quilt project

The quilt project

The quilt project

Coming to the end of a project is always bitter sweet isn't it? While there's an amazing sense of satisfaction that you've finally finished there is also an underlying sense of sadness. I think it's because  one becomes very attached to a project.  It's a commitment and therefore takes up a good deal of your time and attention.

In some ways a project can be likened to a companion that travels with you on a creative journey. You learn together, you grow together and you make mistakes together.   While a project isn't a person nor a relationship as such, it does have an emotional presence in your life.  So I guess there's a very good reason why there's a strange sense of emptiness in your life when it's finally over.

So what did I learn on this journey?
  • Embroidery is a slow process especially if you are focused on detail - (patience)
  • I could improve on some of my stitching - (practice)
  • I'd like to do more; and (persistance)
  • I LOVE IT! (passion)
So I will be posting this baby off to Kirsty tomorrow. It's comforting to know it will be surrounded by good company.

Goodbye old friend.

M, that's looks amazing.....the detail is devine, the sentiment is lovely. I adore the way the knitting needles actually are attached to a knitted scarf, it's such a shame it has to leave your home ):

I don't have words to tell you how amazing this is. I'm gobsmacked, even though I've been keeping up with all the sneak peeks. Scissors butterflies!!! The mini knitting!!! I feel privileged to think that my square will even be included alongside something so detailed and creative and lovely!

Melanie, this is completely divine.  I am overwhelmed - it is absolutely perfect and you have combined so many astounding details.  I hope for your sake that you have elected to "save" your square rather than swap it, because it obviously contains so much of you within it.  Beautiful.

Melanie??? That is OMG... You poured so much into it. I have been talking to Carlos about getting another tattoo but no one seems to get that I want cotton reels, sewing machine, scissors, buttons that kinda thing incorporated into it... YOU my girl have opened up my mind. I want a sewing machine ballon just like yours!! How would you feel about it?! Omg I keep going back to look at it!!

Mel it is sublime! Loving the details. Should really get off the computer and deal with my own small disaster detail (fusible webbing is not for the sleep deprived)...

Thanks Jay.  I'm really happy with it too.  And it's ok, it's coming home at some point but then it will be off again permanently.  I have it in mind for someone.

M* said...

Aww thank you Gina.  I am quite overwhelmed with all the feedback and don't know what to say myself!  I feel a little speechless!

Thanks Lara.  I have decided to keep it but intend to gift it away to someone when I get it back.  I'll take lot's of pictures of it in daylight so I can always remember it.

M* said...

Steph - absolutely!  Tattoo away.  I'd love for you use the ideas. Go for it.

Thanks Kate.  I don't know how I knew when it was finished.  I think it was more the deadline than anything.  I am proud of myself.  I am proud I successfully executed my ideas.  That is sometimes the biggest challenge of all!

Thanks Bec I had a lot of fun making it.

And yes it is interesting to hear how people work things at home.  I think we make too many assumptions about people and should try and find out more.  I think there's a lot to learn.

M this is seriously, insanely great!! I kid you not. The detail in the skirt, the socks, the sequins, the teensy scissors!! I'm in love with this. It has just made my week - you should be rolling around the floor proud of yourself!

Aww thanks Jenaveve.  I do feel proud of myself.  I loved making it and was so happy the ideas in my head ended up pretty much exactly how I wanted it to look.

Thanks again for your lovely comments.

Thanks Gret.  It has definitely inspired me to do more embroidery.  I have a few ideas floating around in my head but nothing concrete yet.
