my creative space

My Creative Space

My foreground project:  A beret for little Ruby...
... and my background project now at 72 squares.

A little while back I received a generous gift from a lovely crafty lady and I really wanted to return the favour so it was agreed I'd make a multi-coloured beret out of my woolly left overs.  I was starting to get worried because the little bit of experimentation I've been doing was not producing good results.  Thankfully I started the background project and thus played around with a lot of interesting colour combinations - a lot of them random lucky dipping.

I finally landed on the soft, sparkly pastels you can see above. I'm slowly making my way around and around and will have this beret finished very soon.

I'm also participating in the blogtober fest and are going to post the 'word of the day' every day for a month.  It's absolutely going to kill me I just know it!!

Make sure you pop in and visit the other creative spaces here...

I am not adventurous enough to do Blogfest, unfortunately it also lands in the middle of reporting-fest for me at school - so that is a sure fire killer for any blog initiative!

Word of the day... another great idea! I might have to actually try & think of some sort of nifty gimmick too... I doubt I shall but still... in all honesty just doing something I have committed to do will be a challenge in itself!

Jealous of your crochet craftyness... perhaps I should convince my Nanna to try to teach me.... again... ;)

Ok I did it, I signed up too god help me. Isn't it funny with colour combos that the randomly chosen ones often work better than the ones you consider and agonise over.

72 squares - wowzers! That's awesome. Enjoy blogtoberfest, I did it last year and it was a ball alas  I don't think I could pull it off this year.

good luck with your word of the day. this photo is very dramatic, love the lighting and the pile of squares in the background ~ 72 is a pretty good number at this stage :)

Pretty beret.  I love the colors.  Good luck staying up with Blogtoberfest.  I can barely blog once or twice a week as it is.

Love Ruby's colours and so impressed by your square stack. Well done, that crochet hook must really fly. : )

What gorgeous colors!  Trying to get back into crochet myself, wishing my attempts were half as lovely as yours!

I love your description of the granny squares as a "background project".  I think that's an excellent way to view them (& possibly where I made my grave error...allowing them to take centre stage).

Lucky little Ruby and what an impressive stack of squares you have there.

Yes definitely convince your Nana to teach you to crochet again.  It's well worth the lesson.  You will never turn back

Thanks Kylie.  I am a bit lazy on the photo front sometimes so it's nice when I have the time to take the time and get a good shot.  Glad you love your beret.  I loved it too!

That picture is the type of thing that will eventually draw me back to crocheting again.  I could just imagine being in the middle of making that.
