Easter eggs made last weekend by my girls and I using wax crayons and food colouring. Yay! It's a long weekend at last. I have really been looking forward to a good break in routine and now I finally have it.
I guess I should first explain the blog name change. I was never really happy with 'polly, sukie and the kettle' in the first place. Everything else I typed in had been taken and I was so sick of trying to think of something. In the end I chose the polly option simply because I put the kettle on!! But I really wanted something simple and in the end I thought 'emmstarr' was easy to remember. I hope I haven't lost any followers in the process...will have to check and see if there's a way of notifying...
On to the posting list...we are having guests tonight so my husband has cooked a big fish stew for dinner and it's my job to do the dessert. I have decided on a personal favourite, rhubarb crumble, and are going to experiment on a new style of crumble topping. This behaviour tends to amuse my husband mainly because he is a recipe follower and I am a recipe 'experimentarian'. I don't know what it is but I always have to take things outside of the square when I bake where he meticulously follows the recipe. He believes following the recipe results in refined flavours and I believe my adaptations improve flavours. Either way we are both sometimes right and wrong as it all depends on the recipe... I'll let you know how my new crumble turns out.
But while we are on the topic, what about you? I'd be interested to know if there are others out there like me or whether there are others out there like my husband. Are you a recipe follower, or an 'experimentarian'?

Phew! I'm so glad you commented on my blog (thank you btw!) so that I could find you again! I was freaking out having only just found you! And whilst we share a name I have to say I am like your husband - I am a follower (in fact I was babbling on about my strict recipe following on my blog a week or so ago!). My theory is the authors are my teachers and I am their very willing pupil! If I am feeling daring I might tweak things ever so slightly but only if I have made the recipe a billion times already! And I'm not even a Virgo!
Good luck with the crumble - I made a Bill's Plum Crumble last night which was scrumptious ... because I followed the recipe ;)
LOL! Funnily enough I am in fact a Virgo. I am not very neat either. Plum crumble sounds divine.
