Tea Cosy

The beauty of only having just started a blog is that I can talk about all things I have made in the past instead of making new stuff! This isn't to say I don't like making new stuff, it's just I don't get to do is as often as I want to.

Any hooo this is a tea cosy I made late last year for my old boss. I received a promotion and was leaving his branch so I decided I'd make him a tea cosy as a parting gift because we often made pots of tea when we worked together.

The main body of the cosy is made out of navy blue cotton drill lined with a maroon cotton. I sewed some wadding into it to give it some insulation (you can't have a tea cosy that doesn't keep the tea cosy!).

Next I designed the tree. I drew my design for the trunk on paper, traced it onto some interfacing then ironed it onto the fabric. I then sewed it onto the cosy with a button hole stitch. The leaves were very simple to do, I used felt and hand stitched them on and then finished the tree off by adding the buttons.

The next step was the other side of the cosy. I originally intended to embroid a quote about tea onto the cosy but after a couple of attempts I decided my embroidery skills and limited time meant that I needed to do something else. I settled on writing the quote instead and while I can't say I am entirely happy about the result it worked out pretty good in the end.

Finally the bird. I have made a number of these kind of birds before, mainly as toys for my daughters. I make them out of felt and use blanket stitch to edge them. They are very simple and quick and easy to make and look very cute when they're done!
