pillow talk...

my bed

I don't know if it's just me but The Wife and I have the strangest and most interesting conversations when we go to bed.  We discuss world politics, philosophy, trivial nothingness, toy with hypotheticals and humour.  I can honestly say that some of the best conversations we have are in this time space and I have to wonder whether it's caused by a fatigue induced insanity at the end of the day or the total lack of stimuli (darkness, silence) .  Whatever the case I always enjoy them and last night was no exception.  We had a particularly interesting, extremely trivial conversation which I thought I might share with you too.

When attempting to set the alarm for the morning the wife knocked the sleep button and cursed about not knowing how to turn it off.  We ended up laughing about how everyone probably does the same thing when they set the alarm and how the sleep button is probably the most underused function on an alarm clock We wondered if there was any market research into whether people actually used it and whether or not it should be removed.  Riveting huh? But at the time it was funny.

We continued the sleep button banter for a little while (as you do) and then somehow the conversation led to a new topic and the topic I wish to raise with you today.  In contrast to the sleep button and needing sound to go to sleep we explored the idea of what people like to do when they wake up - what kind of music sound or radio to they like to hear first thing in the morning.  We rambled on for quite sometime about this  when The Wife asked this question

"If you were to wake up to one song for an entire year, what song would that be?"

At first I drew a total blank.  It's a big question.  It would have to be a special song, a song that you know you wouldn't get sick of.  For me it would have to be a song that's sets the mood for me each day and I think it would have to be a happy, non serious kind of song.  For The Wife, it would most likely be a song with no lyrics.  He thinks a song with lyrics would get tiresome and he'd easily get sick of it.

My choice?  "Train in Vain" by the Clash.  I like to bop, dance and sing  (mind you badly for all three).  It's a song that I would get sick of it I listened to it everyday but I'd easily forgive it first thing in the morning.  As soon as the lyrics started I'd be bopping my way into the day.

His choice?  "Dr Who Theme" not the Tom Baker era nor the most recent series but the one in between. (Apparently there were different versions in the old series. I wouldn't even be able to recall that there was a difference post Tom Baker but I am not a freak like he is.)

So what about you? I'd love to hear what you think.   "If you were able to wake up to one song for an entire year, what song would you choose?"

What an interesting discussion....I think I'd have to choose a song from my fave band of all time - INXS. It would have to be happy and boppy to actually encourage me to get out of bed, so New Sensation would work.

Oooh I do love your bed cover!

Tricksy question. But I think I'd like to wake up every morning to Ben Folds' "The Luckiest". I doubt I'd get sick of it.

I too would have no words...I would go for south american duo "rodrigo y gabriela" song "Diablo Rojo"  or an irish jig!!

The Gambler. Only because this year I am older and wiser for listening to the lyrics. Oh, and because it's never not stuck in my head. Terrifyingly.

I would go for 'Dream a Little Dream of Me' - Mama Kass...

Hehe. We have those sleepy, end of the day chats too. Just lovely. Now to the question... Astral weeks always makes me feel happy, relaxed and comfy...

what a great question!
i think my song would have to be "West End Blues" by Louis Armstrong - it starts out with a great hearalding trumpet then mellows out...

though i love the idea of an irish jig or maybe "Wallop The Cat" by The Wicked Tinkers (irish music band I know)
