Well that's what I keep telling myself anyway! As you may or may not know I am participating in Kirsty at Kootoyoo's quilt project with all these great people. I received my square in the mail this week and are getting ready to begin.
Admittedly it's been a lot harder than I thought. I didn't realise that doing things in red would be so challenging. I think it's because I don't think about red that often. When I use red it's mainly as an accessory to another colour. I tend to use it more as a highlight so I am struggling a little for ideas. I thought I could just transfer what I'd do in black and white into red and white but it isn't the same.
Soooo, I've decided to explore my ideas a little bit further before I knuckle down and start working on the final product. And given that I have a crochet induced thumb injury (marked beautifully with a red racing stripe), a little more time resting the tired digit certainly won't go astray!!
Make sure you take a look at more creative spaces over here....

Oh I love it!! What a gorgeous space :)
Hope your injured thumb is on the mend soon. Have fun thinking red.
Ahhhhh, how regal does it look!!! Wow! This quilt is going to be brilliant!
Oh wow Mel all that red! Meant to be very good feng shui (sp?) isn't it? Just gorgeous. I'm sure you will come up with something amazing. I was so tempted to join in but have zero original creative ideas (I am so blocked it ain't funny) so I will live vicariously through you!
p.s sorry I missed the post about your finger! You poor love! Gosh what we go through for our craft! I sliced my finger hideously the other night on my rotary cutter. At least it's sharp!
I love red and it all looks so vibrant and exciting, but yes, it is hard en masse to make it all work together. Good luck! It looks fabulous so far. K
I am no stranger to crochet induced injuries. Hope you heal fast!
I'm getting so excited to see all these red squares! (And still brainstorming my own square, since I'm in the States and still waiting for mine.)
Totally reminding me of Fall...beautiful..I hope your thumb heals quickly and you have some mighty awesome RED inspiration right around the corner!!
really sweet red space!
Green with envy with all your beautiful red.
First: that cake looks amazing!!
Two: Belated happy birthday for the birhtday girl!
Three: being any age over thirty ... sucks
Four: I hope the crochet injury heals soon!
The quilt project sounds so very cool and I really wanted to participate but I just didn't know where I could fit it in, Good luck to you- what an interesting learning exerience it turns out to be as well! The challenge of red!
Annamaria
such a wonderful photo full of inspiration I too have many ideas too for the quilt project and am trying to bring just one of them together into a cohesive piece!!! may take a while.....
Surrounding yourself with all those beautiful red things is sure to help with your creativity and exploration. You'll probaby start notcing red everywhere now... sort of like when you have a sore thumb and realise how much you actually use your thumbs!!!
All that red looks totally fabulous.
Your tree sketch is very cute. I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with. Love the dolls, think I had something similar as a kid... now where are they?!
I love red, and redwork. After a while the lack of variation won't both you at all!
For someone that doesn't think of red all that much you sure have assembled a stunning collection...hope it inspires...
...and best wishes for a rapid repair on that thumb injury I've got a little finger knitting injury....while these things sound silly they do cause a bit of distress and limit crafting time....so hope it gets better soon.
I love this red post - good luck with the quilt project
once you are used to it u'll probably wonder why u didn't red red before!
i like it as a little feature among other colours too :)
oooh, i just posted a comment about you loving red completely when u get used to it but i have no idea where it went!! maybe on someone else's blog!! anyway it is looking pretty :)
Ouch to the rotary cutter. My goodness that would have been nasty. Glad to hear you are ok!
Thanks Kylie.
It is an exciting project isn't it? I can't wait to see them all
Thanks Annamaria for all your lovely wishes.
It's great fun isn't it? So glad I jumped in without thinking and committed to it!
Thanks Kirsty. I owe the red bit to you!!
Thanks Rachel. The good thing is that the splint has worked in alleviating the pain and I am growing rather fond of it! It's funny, I never ever dreamed I'd have a crochet injury. Cutting myself with scissors or pricking myself with a needle is expected but not a serious joint injury!!
LOL! I know that feeling, thank you. I'm very excited about this project
rat-a-tat-tat! Tatting ... huzzah! yeah, its kinda fun but so much less immediate than the ole crochet. I'm just not sure where to takwe this though now I know how to do it, perhaps there may be some sneaky fun pattrens out there... a penis shaped doily or perhaps a tatted caravan cover? hmm...gotta love the shuttle-thang though, oh how I love the parephanelia of craft!
Great Red Photo Mel! I'm looking forward to what you come up with. Chele
