friday favourites...

Well it's been a busy week and I've found it hard to find the time to post let alone read blogs. But I knew that whatever happened during the week I would make sure I posted today. So here I sit frantically before work, hair wet and running very late!!

Last year I was approached by a friend and colleague who wanted me to teach her how to knit. I was more than happy to show her, I only know plain, purl, cast on and cast off but that's enough to get anyone started! I sat down with her one lunch time and taught her the basics.

After a few months my friend had blossomed into a competent knitter. She bought herself knitting books and started to branch into a lot of stitch experimentation. I was so proud of her (still am). There is nothing like seeing a protege grow and become more experienced than their teacher. I had to laugh on a number of occasions because she would sometimes come to me for stitch/knitting advice and I'd have to tell her that what she was doing was way out of my league and I couldn't help at all!

So the point of the post is...??? The point of the post is that I had a coffee with my friend this week and she pulled out this scarf she has been working on. I was so blown away by it. It looks amazing and it's so beautiful She is so clever and I am so happy that I was able to introduce her to a skill she is so good at. I hope the photo does it justice!!

Vanessa's Scarf

It's made from the same Noro yarn that I used to make this scarf but I think she does the yarn far more justice than me!

Friday favourites...

I haven't been feeling the best this week so I haven't entirely been in the mood for blogging or surfing the net for that matter. So I'm sorry for not visiting your blogs and saying hi. I haven't meant to be rude or anything, I have just been tired and not really interested in sitting in front of a screen for hours on end. You know that feeling? I am sure you have all felt that way at some time or other?

So my favourite thing this week? My favourite thing this week has been this book...

Friday Favourites

Now they say you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover and this is one book that does nothing to sell itself on the outside. If it wasn't for the title I'd have never taken a look, but once you take a glance on the inside...

From 250 Crochet Motifs

Voila? Non? Ooouuiii!! 250 glorious patterns of temptation under the one roof. I was so excited when I bought it. I am still excited! Think of all the experimenting with small I can do? This book has given me an myriad of ideas and experiments that I can do when I am feeling like taking on going blind for a few hours... In fact here are some bitsies I've produced over the last few days...

friday favourites

They are not completed patterns as such, I wanted to keep them to a certain size so I followed the first half only of some of the patterns. I think I really need to get some practice crocheting these motifs in a larger size but that means I'll have to do things twice and I'm lazy like that!!

So what was your favourite thing this week? Do you want to join in? If you do, then please leave a comment below and I'll pop by and take a look! Remember to link back here ok?

Friday favourites...

If you checked out my post last Friday then you'd know that I have started a 'thang' where I post the most inspiring thing I've experienced or seen during the week. I'm happy for anyone to join in if they want to but make sure you link back here ok?

Do any of you know Melanie at 'from little things'? If you have been following my blog for a while you may know that she was the first person to follow my blog and had a bit of a pants making problem that I helped her out of?

Well Mel has been an inspiration to me this week. She has started to make a quilt which has a sad story behind it and is what makes it so special. Her journey through this difficult time has made me realise how important it is not only to have good friends but in acknowledging the healing that the making and creating or the process of making and creating can provide. I really admire that she found inspiration in an experience that is so difficult and for sharing the journey with us. I can't wait to see it finished as I know it will be beautiful.

If you'd like to join in, then please leave a comment. Instructions can be found here. If enough people participate, then I will get one of those linky gadgets things. Yippee! It's Friday!

friday favourites...

I am starting a new thing on Fridays.  I am going to post about the most favourite thing I have seen, noticed, experienced, made or read over my week.  Something that changed me, inspired me, moved me, aesthetically pleased me, made me laugh, made me cry.  A great photo, a super blog, a beautiful story, an amazing flavour, a kind stranger, a memory, a moment, a painting, a journey, a phrase, a stitch, a quote, a triumph.

And it begins today.  Right now in fact!

Gippsland - Toms Cap Winery

This week I went to Gippsland for work and experienced this moment in the morning.  It was cold, frosty but absolutely breathtaking.  Photos don't always do things justice but I think you can get a fair idea of how amazing the morning was.  As much as I whinged about having to go away for the night away from the family, I was reminded the next day that the cup is always half full and not half empty.

Would you like to join in on Friday Favourites?  You don't have to if you don't want to.  It's just something I want to do to keep me focused on all the good that I sometimes miss because I am too busy.  But of course I'd love it if you want to join in.  Leave a comment if you're interested and if enough people join in then I will look at getting one of those magic link-it thingamagiggy things that all the professional bloggers use.

I hope you all have a great weekend.  I am fairly confident I will.  I am going up to High St Northcote to see a friend on her stall at Northern Exposure and hoping to run into Finki and Curly Pops at their stalls at the Uniting Church.  I also intend to squeeeeeze in a bit of sewing.

Take care!
