I started a scarf with my Noro wool that I purchased last week at Morris and Sons. It's so yummy, the way it gradually changes colour and glistens in the light. It's such a pleasure to knit with and I savour every stitch. So here it is so far...

I didn't quite know what to do with it so I decided to be a little experimental. I am knitting with size 11 (8mm) needles for about 20 rows and then doing about 10 rows with what I think is around 3mm needles. I am using a pair of my grandmother's old needles and they aren't clearly marked.
I don't know if this is unorthodox in knitting because I have never ventured beyond a scarf but at the same time I don't really care because I like the scallop look that I've created. I also like the way it looks uneven and higgledy-piggledy, very me!

The purple plum colour is so beautiful. I love the contrast of the minty green metallic thread through it too. I am in textile heaven!

Your scarf is knitting up a treat, and I just love your higgledy-piggleddy style.
very cool!! most impressed!!
I am instantly off to grab the Mr and get him to the computer screen! You have no idea the amount of doubtful lookery I have been copping. Have been doing PRECISELY the same experimentation with different sized needles - for a scarf - even the same sort of width. Honestly, our scarves could be related. And I damned well like higgledy piggledy!
god you find some good threads woman! And I love the scalloped effect. Very, very lovely indeed.
(oh, and love a bit of Charlie and Lola ...)
Your scarf looks lovely! Wish I could touch it, are the metalic bits hard?
Just gorgeous! I love the scalloped pattern too, and yes, the colours are just amazing! Thanks for showing. K
I LOVE the scallop-y edges!
I just love that you're willing to experiment! And to heck with the 'rules'. I admire that especially in knitting, which I don't understand enough to break rules in...
really great! I like experiments! and this one looks very succesful :)
Thanks Jay. It's a lot of fun
Thanks Miss Leonie.
Really? LOL, you will have to post it! I'd love to see it! They do say great minds think alike afterall. And doubtful lookery? Does that mean it's a no-no to change the needle size? I'm growing excited. I love being a rebel.
Thanks Mel. I have been lucky to have new shops open up that lead me into temptation. Imagine what Eve would have done if the apple tree was a Tessuti shop??
Thank you. The yarn is interesting. It's not soft like pure wool because it is part silk, part wool. The metallic bit is wrapped in parts around it which stiffens it somewhat. It's not scratchy though
thank you! They are beautiful colours
Thanks Izabela. So far so good. Am going to add some crochet to it too so there's more to come!
looking forward to it :)

The Mr wouldn't have a clue if it was evil to change the needle size - I'm
guessing the looks are provoked by the higgledy piggledy-ness.
Unfortunately, I am knitting with yarn as thin as spider webs (ok, slight
exaggeration, but WHAT AM I THINKING?), just need to get a bit further down
the track so there's something to look at/post about.
Have a mighty fine Monday!
love the colour combo...
and fantastic idea using different size needles....
Wow! love the scalloped edges too - your experimantation has produced a terrific result. I would like to give this a try too.
Being a novice knitter, I'm mostly making the regular rectangular scarf, but I reckon this could make my knitting a bit more exciting!
