down but not out...

At last I've turned that getting better corner and my spirits are feeling lifted. The blood is finally returning to my motivation so I now find myself inspired to post!

Time to fill in the gaps...

Firstly a giveaway prize arrived in the mail...

Stamp Giveaway win

I won this giveaway a couple of weeks ago on Nadine's blog, Handmade Little Lovelies. Nadine was doing a feature on Jess Nicole who makes stamps and other beautiful things and sells them via her etsy shop. The prize was originally for a beetroot stamp but because I said I loved her mushroom stamp, Jess also sent me the mushroom! How great is that? Thanks Jess and Nadine for the great giveaway!!

Next some trim I bought from the 'Trimgoddess", (yes there is such a thing) arrived...

measuring tape ribbon

How cool is that? I have some lovely plans for this, mwahahahahahaaa...

AND, because I was sick and unable to do much over the last few days I made sure all the time spent sitting on the couch wasn't completely wasted. I got stuck into doing some functional crochet and I made this...

Ivy's crochet Hat

Ivy's crocheted hat

I am so proud of myself. The tension is so incredibly even and it looks so neat. I didn't even use a pattern*. The best bit of all is that Ivy even loves it and will wear it. I am currently in the process of adding a flower at Ivy's request...

Ivy's crochet hat

Ivy's crochet hat

She said she'd like 'many flowers' but I'll see what happens. This is probably my 5th try at making a flower. I just don't seem to have the right type of wool in the right colour. The only wool I have is either too thick or too thin. This one has worked out ok (again my own pattern!) so now I am trying my hand at crocheting a leaf. Will let you know how I go.

*Please let me know if you like the hat. I am happy to attempt to remake it and write the pattern down as I go??

Oh and one more thing...Mel from 'from-little-things' wanted to see my new ring on my hand so she could get a feel for what it looks like...

Here it is...

Rings and things

Not exactly a glamourous shot but you know I must be feeling better if I am doing the dishes. = )

The hat is great! I'd be very interested in the pattern if you're able to write it down! I also like the effect of the varigated yarn - what have you used?

I LOVE the hat. The colours are wonderful, the flower really gives it the wow factor...but my favourite part is the frilled edge. Yes please for the pattern!

Glad you're on the mend - the ring does suit you well!

Glad you're back in action. Don't think I commented last post but I meant to say that I really like your first-ever ring - may there be many more! Looks like lily-pads... and looks lovely on your hand.
Oh and your little poppet is gorgeous too, especially in that hat!

Oh thanks for taking a shot especially for me! Love that it was over the sink! It's a really great size Mel - very distinctive. And the hat is just lovely (and so is Ivy)! And don't you love it when they actually WEAR something you've made?

I just love your mwahhahahahahaaas. Make me grin everytime.

Can I put my hand up for the hat pattern? Would love to give it a whirl!

Way to go. I have tried to crochet a hat but to no avail! The ring looks great. I have done a 12 month course in gold and silver smithing and loved it. I started an apprenticeship but my boss ran out of money. I got another job at the bench, long story, but now I have $1000 worth of tools sitting on my jewellery bench in the garage and not being used! :(  The last job just put me off. Maybe one day?

Thank you! I shall definitely write out the pattern

Thank you! It's funny you think it looks like lily pads. That's what I named it! The Lily Pad

Thanks Kylie. It's very sweet

Wow. You have all that equipment? Awesome! It's a shame a bad job has put you off!! Have you thought about possibly running some small classes or hiring out your space? It might re-inspire you?

I thought I replied to this today but it hasn't recorded it.  I apologise if I am doubling up.

The wool I used is a cheap Lincraft Brand, DK? I think?  It's their generic brand and they have tonnes of it.

I will post the pattern very soon.  I just need to sit down and do some counting!

I love the trimm and I am wondering what are you going to do with it, ha... very nice try with the hat, I would sent you some crochet flowers but I know you are a crafter and making those is such a fun so I am going to leave you with them ;)

I am looking forward to your experiments with crochet and silver because I have this next in my queue to do...

I.
