Well she's 3 now! Hooray! And doesn't time fly? It's hard to believe it's been 3 years. Mind you I do have a 16yo too and if I have to compare, 3 is nothing hard to believe! Still the transition from a small, helpless, innocent little being into a talking, walking tornado in just 3 years is something to marvel at.
The doll. Well yes, I was a little ambitious in regards to having all the things I wanted to make done by today but I did get the doll finished which was the important part. Unfortunately, whilst I managed to finish the doll I didn't actually have time to make clothes for it so I had to gift it naked which seems to be a popular theme with dolls around here ; ). Here she is in all her glory...
I love making dolls and it's a pity I don't get a chance to make more of them. I love creating their personality and they never quite turn out exactly how I planned which makes it all the more interesting.
On the chest of the doll (I'd like to name her Violet but I don't know if I get naming rights?) I embroidered a felt heart with Ivy's name in it as this doll is her guardian angel and will look after her, listen to her secrets and be her best friend when she needs one. I'm not overly sentimental as such and I don't necessarily believe in angels either but I do know little girls love having a little bit of magic and mystery in their lives and Ivy is no different.

I'm SO impressed. She's fabulous... even naked! I like the fact you're encouraging imagination in your little one. I was planning to make some 'kinder boys' for my lads for Christmas, this just encourages me further - sewing, not crochet, tho!
Wow M, you did so well, particularly in making deadline too! And happy birthday to Ivy. I love the mosiac ~ especially pic 7, priceless look!
Wow, the doll is sooo sweet. I am sure she will be a special magic friend for a long time
Wow! You are quickly becoming one of my crochet heros :) With any luck my crochet skills may have improved by the time my 7 month old turns 3 so that she can receive some extra special concrete mummy love too! It's a lovely gift.
Happy birthday little one, I love your new dolly.
Happy Birhday to that beautiful little cherub. That doll is amazing. Did you follow a pattern? I love her, her hair, her face, her belly button. Wow! She must be thrilled.
Happy birthday to your little one. She's so sweet and so is her dolly. I'm sure she will cherish her.
Oh those photos are just divine! Happy Birthday to your gorgeous little one! I love her guardian angel too. So very special :) K
Oh Melanie I loooooove that photo montage! What a brilliant way of seeing three years zoom by! She does look like a cute little ball of fun!
And the doll is just divine - love the heart patch! Is that the cupboard you picked up off the road? It's really excellent :)
Love the belly button detail and she's a treat. No doll ever gets to wear clothes around here. Have tried explaining that the dolls are freezing but it's a patent no goer!
Thanks Kellie. It was lots of fun to do
Thanks Cindy. She hasn't really warmed to her yet am hoping clothes will assist with the bonding process
That's such a lovely thing to say! I'd love to be a crochet hero; I could crochet a cape and cute knickers
Thanks Kate. I didn't follow a pattern. Just made it up as I went along. I made a arimugumi rabbit a while back - check this post: http://emmstarr.blogspot.com/2009/06/long-weekends.html and this one: http://emmstarr.blogspot.com/2009/06/my-creative-space-h.html so had a fair idea of how to shape the body and head, arms and legs were easy peasy. The doll is considerably bigger so I had to make sure I increased more etc... It wasn't that hard in the end. The hair was time consuming. I individually knotted clumps to the head. if you decide to have a go at one yourself let me know. Happy to help if you need it?
Thanks Thea!
Hi Mel, sorry I am responding to my comments all out of order. Is it confusing you?
This is the cupboard that I bought at the garage sale for $2. It came up a treat didn't it?
LOL! Isn't funny how they like their dolls without clothes? I don't understand it?? There's nothing more fun than dressing them up? Perhaps it's an age thing?
