If you haven't figured it out I am a public transport (PT) dork. I don't drive and I have never had my license. I have essentially spent most of my travelling experiences on PT because my mother didn't drive either and I have raised/are raising my 3 kids with this philosophy.
As a result, PT is an important creative space for me. It's where I knit, crochet or gaze out the window and dream. It's where I meet interesting people, creative people and sometimes downright awful people but that is why I love it. There is never a dull moment.
Important items of note in this photo:
I'd go to Zone Two for you card - Able and Game - was so excited when I first saw this!
1 Chicago Transit Map pin - Ticklebugcreations (I couldn't find my other one!!)
Giveway to trams pin - Cravings Frocks - check out her cushions!
My Lochness Express wallet - by Tinymeat (art by Meg Hunt)
As for my physical creativity, I am cheerfully knitting on the tram every morning in my bid to make some neck warmers to sell. Unfortunately there is not a lot to show, just a strip of plain old black knitting so I decided to focus on the space as opposed to the product = ).

Oooooh i cant see your photo! Its dissapered M*.
Im also a Public Trabsporter, 28 and have NEVER driven, my entire family think im wierd except for my Partner who is 35 and also doesnt drive. It keeps you fit! My girlfriends are always complaining that im thinner than them but they forget that i walk a couple of km to and from bus stops every day!
(I like to think im doing my bit for the environment too)
cant wait to see whats in the pic!
I love that able & game card...so cute.
I love your PT creative space, Melanie!
Hey, hands up! Ditto, me too... except I'm 42 and never driven! When my girls were little they'd throw an arm out to hail every bus we passed (because that's what you do when you see a bus, yeah?) :-D We walk an hour round trip to both of their schools every morning and arvo and I love the exercise... they, of course, hate their mother!
me too!
tho i had my first lesson today . . .in 38 years i've never really needed to drive but life would be so much easier if i could! eg when it rains, when i need to buy supplies bigger than my bag etc. and my 4.5yr old son missed out on a play date this arvo coz i couldn't nick him there in time!
Silly me. I accidently deleted the photo on Flickr.
Glad to find another PT addict! So many people think it can't be done but it's good to see we're that it can
It is a great card isn't it?
Wow! This post has drawn out all the closet Pt-ers! Awesome!
LOL I can't believe how many people don't have their license! Good luck with your lessons!
Wow! I never realised there were so many non-drivers out there. I can't imagine it but I am quite intrigued by it. Melanie, I am really impressed that you have created your own little living/creative space on public transport. Love it!
Hmm. Nice. Ever been to the London Transport Museum? The shop is a veritable treasure trove of memorabilia. In fact I transported a good chunk of it back to my house!
Ha, I have a cravings frocks tram pin. We don't have a car, but I'm using the bike rather than PT these days... like your style, it inspires me. I LOVE that able&game card.
i can't imagine not using pt although i do drive. my sister doesn't have her licence and has no interest in driving at all.
btw i have been stopped twice in the street by people wanting to know where i bought my scarf and the staff in the new wool shop were swooning over it!! there's definitely a market for m* textiles :) btw it's so warm and cosy - i just love it. thanks again
Thanks Thea. I am amazed at how many non-driving, crafty, cool bloggers are out there!!
No I haven't but it would be on my list of places to go if I do every chance a visit to London!!
Thank you, that's such a sweet thing to say. I am aiming for a bike soon. Unfortunately my last bike got stolen so I am waiting til I save up for a new one.
Really? How awesome! That is so great! Thanks for letting me know. And where is the NEW wool shop? You got me addicted to Tessuti, I'm sure you don't mind pushing a wool shop!
the new wool shop is another sydney invader - tapestry craft in sydney has opened a branch above the big dymocks in collins st, near the corner of swanston st. i would be mor than happy to conduct you there mysefl - they have noro...... and embroidery threads :)
I LOVE transit maps from cities around the world. I still cherish the one I brought back from Paris two years ago when I tackled the Metro for the very first time... and lived to tell the tale. You know, I think I just have a thing for maps in general. Who woulda thunk it?
Lovely creative space there M!
