Day 4 - word of the day

wotd 4.10.09

It's funny taking photos of words I see in the street.  I feel so self-conscious.  I just want to get the photo taken quickly so I don't look like a weirdo.  (Probably fighting an up hill battle there!) Still, because I am  hurrying the shot I end up taking awful photos and often need to take more than one. I end up spending more time taking a photo than I want to.  It's a vicious, cruel cycle.

I'm posting the word junk today because Sundays are good junk market days.  The word reminds me of when I was in my late teen gothic/punk days.  I used to religiously travel to Camberwell market every Sunday (mostly on 3 hours sleep!) with $20 in my purse.  I'd return home with piles of junk and bits of obscure clothing and pieces - much to my mother's horror.  I haven't been to Camberwell market for a very, very long time. It's probably time I gave it another visit...

I am so loving your words, Melanie! love the story too ;)
You should do a collage of all your words at the end of the month - it'd look so cool. kylie

We're just home from 2 markets and a garage sale now. A few treasures found and some junk from a lucky dip. Camberwell market is probably one of the only things I miss about living in Melbourne.

Oh god I so know what you mean (about taking shots on the street)! I recently bought an excellent book called, "How to be an Explorer of the World" and it requires you to get out there and take photos or collect bits and pieces you find on the street. Anyway she suggests to say you are, "conducting research", if you ever get asked what you are doing! She reckons that seems to satisfy people!

Nah. – unless all those design students sent out on an 'urban typography studies' are weirdos too.

Love the word of the day idea. I know what you mean about photos in public too. I always feel like all eyes are on me even if there is no one in sight!

he he he!  Yes you've gotta love junk.  Well you don't have to but it's not a bad thing to love!

I'm glad you're loving the words Kylie.  I picked up a few more today.  Was very pleased with my stash!!

Now doing a collage at the end of the month is a great idea. I'll print them out as I go and have a play at the end.  Thanks!

Sounds like a great Sunday Kate.  I knew Junk was the right word for today.

I've told the odd person that I am doing a project where I have to take photos of words.  They seem ok with that.  It's quite funny!

Yeah! It's weird isn't.  You feel like you are doing something wrong.  We'd be rubbish papparazi photographers wouldn't we??

I so know what you mean about looking weird taking photos in the street .... I was taking photos of the entrance to my local train station and felt like a total goose! But I love your word for the day idea ... what a great way to get the 'juices' flowing.

Oh Ya, Camberwell market, I lived just up the road from there for a year when I was about 21. You should definitely visit again, I'd like to too! Junky punk
