plunger cosy

plunger cosy

I'm so excited!!  Look what I made!  It's a plunger cosy!  I made it for a friend whose birthday it is tomorrow.  He's a colleague from work who I know loves his coffee so I made him this to keep it a touch warmer when he drinks it at work.

I searched everywhere for a pattern but the only plunger patterns I could find were the ones that wrap around the middle and I didn't want to make one like that.  Heat rises right?   So I figured it's really important that a cosy works to assist the laws of physics and therefore covers the top.

So I had to take the trial and error approach and make up the pattern as I went along.  It's by no means perfect, there are some improvements to the pattern that definitely have to be made but for a prototype it is definitely a huge success.  I am so in love with it that I am wanting to make one for myself but I don't use a plunger at home so it would be a rather pointless exercise.  I will just have to stick to making them as gifts or giveaways (now there's an idea!).  The thought of the different colours, styles and decorations I can use is very exciting.  Watch this space!

Boy what a great start to my weekend.  I'm off now to bake a batch of these divine looking cookies  by the lovely Ms Cathie at Melbourne Epicure...  Hope your weekend is off to a great start too!

Now that is the perfect MAN gift!
You've also used one of my favourite colour combos in the whole wide world - chocolate brown and blue.... cosy and soothing.

How perfect is that! He'll love it. It's not everday you come accross a bit of masculine looking crochet.

Phew.  I was getting worried it might be a bit of a weird gift for a bloke but I'm glad you think it's a good man gift.  I chose those colours cos they look great and it's boyish.

LOL!  I will do it as a giveaway, perhaps I will give the winner of the word a day giveaway a choice, plunger cover or cosy??

Oh good!  You and Curlypops both think it's masculine-ish.  I am very pleased.

That is one heck of a snuggly pot of coffee you have there. I have a big grin on my face anticipating it's gifting. How could anyone even TRY to guess before opening the pressie?! Love it to bits I do!

I love the colouir combination of the dark chocolate and baby blue too, and the buttons are very clever. You are right about the cosy having a 'top' so to speak. I don't have a plunger, but it is a great idea for a gift!!!

What a great prezzie!! Every plunger should have a warmer to go with it!!

Oh that's such great news!  I thought it would be up his alley.  I will shoot him an email tomorrow.  I am dying to know if it actually makes a difference. Surely it does??

M*, it works well. I was scared to bring it in to work lest someone take it away. I have brought it in today and made two plungers of coffee already. It keeps the back half of the coffee warm until I am ready to enjoy it. A beautiful present and so thoughtful - thanks!
