my creative space

my creative space

Have finished the petals on my flower and are now about to start filling in the gaps.  I decided to block it before continuing as the petals really curled in.  This has made an enormous difference.  They have flattened out quite nicely.

Still chipping away at the granny squares although the nearly completed one featured is the only one I have done this week!

If that flower is about t be a cushion, I'm beside myself with inspired! But could you come down a bit on the inspire thing - I'm still up to my elbows in granny squares...

Thanks Cam.  and Yep, it's going to be a cushion.  It's been quite interesting to make.  It is taking a lot more time than I thought but I guess with experience it will get faster.

Wow Melanie. The flower looks awesome. And it looks as though the size is going to be perfect (I can see it sitting on a cushion!).

LOL, yes it is going to be a cushion.  I've grown quite excited by it as it's come together.  I see so many other cushions in better colour combinations...Why do we torture ourselves like this?

I need to put some energy into my granny's at some point too this week or I'll get an F for effort on that project!

Thanks Kylie.  I'm really happy with the way it is coming together.

Your flower is going to make a beautiful cushion. Love the pinks, yes, we Waffler gals are rather partial to a bit of pink.

glorious colors you chose for the flower!

Love the pinks but even more the red-orange-yellow spectrum sitting beside it, that's going to be one heck of a gorgeous piece of art for your butt!

Looks gorgeous. Are you using the colours next to it. They would really pop! A great combo.

I love that pink flower, it is gorgeous. What is your blocking technique? I think its time to move past the leaving it under my laptop overnight.

M* said...

LOL!  Unfortunately I don't have a laptop so I can't try that one!

I wet the work (quickly so it's not saturated- don't have a spray bottle!!) then pin it flat to a towel but you can pin it an ironing board or a mattress.  You basicially need a surface that is soft yet firm enough to pin your work to. My folded up towel has worked really well.

There's a number of different ways to be found online, down to special gridded blocking mats so you can make sure your grannies are all the same size!!  I plan to make one of these one day using checkered fabric, an old towl or blanket and a pin board.  Happy for you to give it a go first!!

Thanks Nikki.  It is a decent size.  A lot bigger than I thought it would be in fact!!  It will be good to see it finished.

M* said...

Thanks Gina.  Yes the spectrum beside it is going into the rest of it.  Have had a lot of trouble deciding which two of the 3 colours I am going to finish it with though.  Such a hard decision!!

M* said...

Thanks Kellie.  Yes I am using 2 of the colours next to it but it's been a VERY hard decision as to which ones!

Thanks Gretchen.  I have only started blocking (I didn't even know about it a month ago!!) and it has made a huge difference to the doily style crochet I've done.  It's fantastic!

Thanks Linda.  I shall definitely check out your other collages.  I really love discovering what people do to be inspired and create.
